Time to…
Reenter…regroup…recalibrate…reload…restock…
Saratoga is over. The Saratoga Special is done and dusted for another year. Twenty-four in the books. We are in the planning stages for our silver jubilee. Come one. Come all. Tom is talking about organizing a roast. I told him I was too sensitive for a roast. He said, “Exactly.” But that’s a year away. As for now, it’s September. Back to school. Back to work.
Deep breath.
As for racing action, we are gearing up our string for Shawan Downs and the rest of the fall meets. At least we know which races are going. Potus, Queens Empire, Mission Brief and Palio should get back to work at Shawan Downs. Zabeel Champion, Jimmy Dan, Penicillin Success and a few others for Foxfield. Then fill the slots after that.
We’ve been entering Lorraine for weeks. A maiden filly and mare on the turf doesn’t fill in the Mid-Atlantic. Hard to believe. I wish one racing office would reduce their extras and use their book races. If you could count on book races going, you could point a horse for a race. It would be a game changer. For horses and horsemen. Saturday morning, entries will be taken for 27 races for Laurel Park’s Friday card. They’ll use 10 of those 27 races. More races won’t go than will go. That’s a problem. I know it’s not that simple but it’s far from complicated.
