Dark out there. Tatts HIT playing background music this morning. A few to chase, a bunch to dismiss. I miss being there, crashing and dashing up and down the hill, to the back ring, to the sales ring, to the vet office, to the cantina. Making lists. Scratching and adding to those lists. Late withdrawals throwing cannonballs into the plans. Vet reports blowing up buying strategies. Clients suddenly not near their phones. All the while, 1,619 entries ticker-tape past. We’ve hit the mark, we’ve missed the mark. Story of a sale.
We’ll swing at a few. And, of course, if you want to swing with us, feel free to reach out. I’ve noticed having a partner or two helps the ‘spec’ buying.
Our friend George Baker wrote about days like this.
It’s rare that you see “hard” creep into a going description. That’s what it was deemed yesterday at the International Gold Cup at Glenwood Park. Grass cover, short fields, prudent (mostly) jockeys, it looked like it went OK. One of those days when you inhale after each race (jump) and exhale at the end of the day. Everyone did their jobs. Job done. Now back to the rain dance.
Clancy Bloodstock graduate Quick Master won the 115. Inexpensive purchase. Good spot. Cool horse.
Entries for Callaway Gardens and Montpelier today. Race directors decided to cancel the Pennsylvania Hunt Cup because of firm ground. Hard, actually. Hard ground, hard decision. Right decision, surely, but it gets slippery on these slopes. Riverdee will bob and weave with a few entries over the next few weeks and call it a year.
