Back at the Breeders’ Cup for the first time since the first one at Keeneland. American Pharoah. And 20 years since one of my first ones, Lone Star Park. Still my favorite. First time to Del Mar. Awesome morning watching the world’s best. I forgot how much I like the mornings.
I just had to walk away from a printed-out version of an acceptance speech for the Walter Haight Award for career excellence in turf writing. I was losing the urgency. Cocktails at 6. Dinner at 6:30. Speech at…yeah, time is ticking.
Thank my family, my friends, my editors, my peers and the horses…right?
