Ballyburn won his chasing debut at Punchestown. Steel Ally lugged top weight in a handicap hurdle at Haydock. The Morgiana still to come. I’ll be on the road by then, trying to stay focused on I-20 in South Carolina and not racing in Europe.
The American jump season comes to a close at the Aiken Steeplechase today. We’ll try to go out strong with Penicillin Success and Palio. Competitive in competitive fields. We’ve won 10 races this season; tied at the top with wins, fourth in earnings.
Ready for the season to come to a close. Funny game, can’t wait for it to get started in March and can’t wait to finish in November. Just the nature of a high-risk, high-mileage, high-of-highs and low-of-lows sport. We’ve lived it a long time, going way back when I was making make-shift saunas in hotel rooms on the road to lose the last pounds before weighing in for the first. Aiken was good (Woody Boy Would in the Imperial Cup…) and bad (Willowark and a few others…) along the way.
Hoping for the former today.
