Double

Riverdee welcomed the return of the Races at Fair Hill to the schedule with two wins, a second and a third over the six-race card. Thanks to everyone who contributed to get the Cecil County mainstay back on the calendar. I’m looking forward to the funnel cake in the spring.

New recruit De La Cruz won the opening $30,000 maiden. A classy maiden on the flat, the son of Divisidero settled easily, stormed through the field, idled briefly but won cosily. Our first winner with trainer Julie Gomena. And another with jockey Graham Watters. We’ll take it slowly with the 4-year-old, look at some fall options and go from there. He should be a nice jumper for the spring.

The classy Welshman returned to the winner’s circle in the $25,000 flat race for jumpers. Clancy Bloodstock purchased the son of Flintshire for Sonny Via five years ago and then watched and wondered why we didn’t buy him for Riverdee! Well, he’s now with us and it was fun to see him win easily. Sonny would have smiled.

Lorraine did what she does best, finishing second in the filly and mare maiden. That’s the seventh time the French-bred filly has finished second in her 12-race career. One day, she’ll graduate.

Mortal Sin finished third after a tough trip. The 4-year-old needs cover and his cover looked like a wind-blown table cloth as it went up and back and all around in the 1 5/8-mile journey. A likable horse, he’ll have his days down the road.

One today. Vintage Year in an allowance race at Kentucky Downs. Outside post, big price. Post time 3:39 p.m.
