Pudding Lane makes his hurdle debut in the first division of the maiden claiming hurdle at Steeplechase of Charleston for Bernie and Kate Dalton. The 3-year-old son of English Channel caught our eye while making four starts on the turf for Vicki Oliver and breeder St George Farm. The Kentucky bred finished third twice in four starts and always finished his races like a horse who would stay 2 miles. We bought him in June, shipped him south, castrated him, freshened him up and taught him to jump.
“I’ve been very pleased with how he’s been training. He’s been working well and schooling well. We definitely drew the harder race,” Kate Dalton said. “I’m excited to see how he does. It’s always a little bit of an unknown your first time over jumps but he never seems to get tired at home, breezing, he just goes and goes and goes. We were real happy with his schooling day at Shawan Downs. I’m quietly hopeful.”
Quietly hopeful are big words for the understated Dalton.
As always, you can watch it all live.
The TIHR Handicappers are back in action. They each picked Cool Jet and three out of four picked Potus (come on, Miles) last weekend. Spoiler alert, Miles is trying to make it up with a nod to Pudding Lane in the opener.
