Back home late Thursday night. Empty-handed, although I did find a horse for sale privately. That might take care of the trip. We’ll see. The market for horses in training is strong. Crazy strong. I bid on a few, started to bid on a few, walked up and turned around before even thinking about bidding on a few more. The way it goes sometimes. I have learned to not make desperate moves when the market is out of reach.
Did manage a beer at West Sixth Brewing and a run at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary. I have a new respect for the Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland. Beautiful place in the world. A long, single-track low descent to the Kentucky River. Way above the Kentucky River. The only problem with a long, slow descent early is the long, arduous ascent later. Tom Law, Cc Larner and I survived. Oh, hell, we flourished. Now that it’s over.
Watching a Grade 2 from Bahrain. After watching Cheltenham all morning. Weather varying at those two spots. L’Eau du Sud toying with Jonbon and Matata in the Grade 2 Schloer Chase. Royal Champion and James Doyle grinding away the length of the stretch to win the Bahrain International Trophy. An eighth win on his third continent. Galen game as ever. Military Order running out of ground. Clifford Lee, hang tough, brother, hang tough.
Callaway Gardens tomorrow. No runners. Boring. Need to bolster the troops so that doesn’t happen in 2026. Lining up the ranks for the final meet next weekend. Time to land the plane.
