Home

Home on the couch on a soon-to-be Sunday afternoon. Whew. Long and winding road trip complete. Middleburg to Warrenton to Winston Salem to Camden to Aiken to Camden to Middleburg to Rehoboth Beach to Middleburg. Ten days. I think. Lost count.

The Lonesome Glory trophy has found a spot in our dining room. Thanks to Cool Jet’s three wins (one Grade 1 and two Grade 3 stakes). Looks natural as the centerpiece. I’ll climb the attic steps and pull down Christmas decorations to go in and around the sculpture. Some pine cones and ribbon, perhaps, a red candle or too. Maybe a photo of the 9-year-old who led all earners in 2025.

Purchased for $50,504 by Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins at Tattersalls Ireland May Store Sale in 2019, the son of Jet Away won a Thurles bumper and went to the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in 2021. He finished 12th that day and was with Brian Ellison in Britain two starts later. Three starts there and he reemerged in a Foxfield maiden in 2022. A win at Far Hills, two novice stakes scores and he just completed his fourth season for Riverdee and passed Douglas Road, City Dreamer, Eagle Poise and Gilbralfaro to become our leading earner. An Eclipse Award in January would top it off.

That would look good next to the Lonesome Glory trophy. Here’s hoping.
