Straight Sets

Big night for Riverdee Friday. We won seven awards at the Virginia Steeplechase Awards dinner. Cool Jet (3), Potus, Penicillin Success, Jhirsch and several individual accolades for the stable. Silver-plated plates for the walls. Trying to spread the love, Miles, Annie, Margaret Littleton, Lee McGettigan, Laird George and I accepted awards. Fun night. Good turnout. Spring always feels a little more in the air as you walk out of the Middleburg Community Center after the annual dinner.

Thanks to Don Yovanovich and the Virginia Steeplechase Association for all the hard work and dedication. As we say around here, ‘Who puts on the best party?’ The one putting on the party.

Will Driskill and I lost in the Middleburg Tennis Club Calcutta Finals Saturday night. 6-2. 6-2. We clawed our way to 2-2 in both sets, lost the next one slid down the mountainside. Tough match. I got exposed for my lack of tennis ability. Understandable since I don’t play tennis. I have vowed to play more before next year’s tournament. I said the same thing after playing the Calcutta for the first time in 2020. Then Covid hit, the world stopped and I didn’t pick up a racket again until this tournament. Hey, reaching the finals is an accomplishment, right?

Onward. Upward. Over the net. And all that stuff.
