Free day

Liverpool on your mind? That was from Expedia a few days ago.

Yes, I looked. Not for very long, but I looked. Race there. Life here. Now, we sit and wait and fret and try to occupy our minds. Sherminator takes on 20 rivals in the 5:15 at Aintree today. That’s 12:15 p.m., our time. Miles is checking his class schedule – the period before lunch…maybe a study hall – trying to decide which teachers would allow a five-minute break to watch a horse race. Talk about Liverpool on your mind. Latin? Mrs. Maclean, of course. She was at Virginia Fall for our double and Old Dominion for our triple.

We lined up leading Irish amateur Patrick Mullins for Sherminator as he makes his second start in handicap company in the Debenhams Handicap Hurdle for conditional jockeys and amateur riders. Second choice at 9-2, just tracking Harry Lowes for the handicap maestro Dan Skelton. Way back to the third choice, Pourquoi Pas Papa, at 8-1.

Racing Post: Sherminator. Won all four completed starts over hurdles and probably more to come; considered.

Harry Fry in The Racing Post: “He’s been progressing and won nicely on his handicap debut last time. This is obviously a deeper race, but hopefully he goes in there with a strong chance. We got on to Patrick Mullins quite early, and having the best available rider is a big plus.”

Patrick Mullins on Paddy Power: “I’m really looking forward to riding SHERMINATOR in the 2m handicap hurdle. He’s crept up the ratings for winning twice this season but still has a nice racing weight. The track and the ground should suit him well. I’m hoping he can provide me with a winner on Ladies Day. That’s important!”

One thing is certain, the value has gone in the Sherminator/Gooloogong exacta. Good luck George Baker Racing.

Sherminator wins at Exeter.
