55 and a Day

Moving on from my 55th birthday. Thank you to all the well wishers. One of the few days when I enjoy Facebook. A lot of old friends doing their once-a-year drop in, drive by, check up. We enjoyed a quiet dinner at home, no fireworks, no fuss.

My favorite gifts. A couple of books to read.

One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This by Omar El Akkad. Groundbreaking Food Gardens, by Niki Jabbour. On Air, the Triumph and Tumult of NPR, by Steve Oney. When the Going Was Good, by Graydon Carter. I started each, just read a few pages. The New Yorker reviewed Carter’s book and it was on my list. Thank you, Meredith.

Anyone read any of these? Drop me a review.

Juggling a thousand decisions this morning; mostly surrounding horse and jockey health. Ulcers, airway inflammation, kissing spines…broken ankle. Whitney Schweizer, our Saturday jockey, suffered the latter. Tough game. Especially for amateur timber jockeys, a window of races and a window slammed. Virginia Korrell deputizing on Potus in the maiden timber at My Lady’s Manor. She missed last weekend with bruised ribs. Tough game.

Big day for Riverdee Saturday. Penicillin Success, Roja Redemption and Cool Jet head to Blue Ridge. Include It and Potus aim at My Lady’s Manor.
