Barn duty

Switched Sunday chores for Saturday chores so I can go racing tomorrow. Three horses and a cat today. Easy game. Nine horses and everything that goes with them tomorrow. Busy game. Thirty-one degrees out there this morning. Spring isn’t quite here. It’s hinted a few times, tempted a few times but hasn’t unpacked and stayed. Yet.

Awesome day of racing today. All over the map, from Dubai to Camden to Oaklawn to Gulfstream. I made my daily sheet of races and horses worth watching, it spread over two columns today. Starting with the Mile at Meydan and stretching to a maiden at Turfway. Thirteen hours and 35 minutes of action. Talk about March Madness. No, I won’t watch all of them. The most important races are in bold, I’ll try to catch those live, Brocklesby, UAE Derby, Albert Einstein, World Cup, Temperence Hill, 115 handicap, Carolina Cup, the Florida Derby, Arkansas Derby 1 1/2-mile maiden…

As for tomorrow, I’ll make another list but will catch fewer races live as I navigate the runners at Green Spring. First day of the season for most of the Riverdee runners. Eclipse Award winner Cool Jet, 3-year-old champion Ethics, promising novice Cyber Ninja and all the rest. Nothing to win. Hopefully nothing to lose.

Time to go. Horses are hungry. I almost put away the Carhartts. Almost.
