Better than snow. We are trying to appreciate and celebrate small victories. That’s how the winter is gone. A long, slow slog and still slogging. February is about to flip to March and not a day too soon. Dreaming of Warrenton, Piedmont, Old Dominion, Keeneland, Saratoga and beyond.

We entered Sherminator for 0-140 handicap at Newbury Saturday but have decided to wait for a 0-120 handicap at Exeter next Friday. First step out of novice company. Trying to gradually climb the ladder. Hopefully it kicks off a great week at Cheltenham. Hey, it worked last year.

We are working on the table arrangements for the Virginia Steeplechase Awards Friday night. I’ve lined up the acceptance speeches. Miles, Annie, Lee, Margaret…

Bought nine tickets for Songwriters Celebrate John Prine at Wolf Trap June 9. Whew, that seems like a long time from now, a sultry summer night under the stars at Wolf Trap. Emmylou Harris, Margo Price, Patty Griffin, I’m With Her, Lucius, Allison Russell, Hayes Carll, Jobi Riccio, Fancy Hagood, and Tommy Prine. They’ll be backed by Prine’s own band.

Here’s an old friend who I had never met.

Prine played Wolf Trap 19 times. Miles and I saw him twice there and had tickets for a third.
