Still basking in a big weekend. Spent all day at Glenwood Park Sunday, picking up beer bottles, pulling down stall cards, taking down banners, folding up picnic tables, slashing ice bags, assessing the damage (minimal) and discussing how to improve after the eight-race card. I wound up with three bags of potato chips, a bag of clementines, a pile of colored saddle towels (Hey, Regina…), a two-ended snap and a couple of tie chains. Where’s lost and found?
I’ve done those rounds after losing all day Saturday and I’ve done those rounds after winning all day Saturday. Needless to say, this year’s Sunday was a lot more fun. And yes, I pumped my fist a few times while thinking about the performances by Ethics and Potus. Awesome day at the races.
I’ve gotten where I’m pretty quiet during the running of the races. Saturday, I leaned my left shoulder against my favorite tree on my favorite rocks and watched horses over my favorite course. A drunk in front of me roared for Ethics (each time he came by the stands) and I could hear Miles in my right ear the final time. “Come on Ethics,” as he came to the last and then a little louder as he got to the elbow. Same for Potus. A son watching his dad’s life’s work. Great sound.
Three entries this week.
Imarajan makes his return after a summer break. The son of Camelot takes on 21 rivals (yes, 21 rivals) in the DNG Gold Handicap at the Curragh Thursday. Winner’s share is €10,620. Some game.
Serifos makes his second start over hurdles for Riverdee and Ten Strike in the McDynamo Maiden Sweepstakes at Far Hills Saturday. His hurdle debut at Shawan was decent, definitely needed and hopefully educational and strengthening. Graham Watters rides for Jack Fisher.
Cyber Ninja takes another step up the hurdle ladder taking on eight rivals in the Foxbrook Champion Hurdle. The $150,000 novice stakes is definitely deep and competitive. Watters rides for Fisher there as well.
