As always, the reasons for the defeats pile up like peanut shells on the floorboard of a pickup truck.
Wrong spot. Wrong day. Wrong instructions. Wrong ground. Too wide. Too fresh. Too free. Too close. Too far back. Grabbed quarter. Displaced.
It is the sport. Run eight horses over three days and some run well, some run OK and some run poorly. Then you drive home, regroup and try to figure out what went right and what went wrong.
I send reports for each runner to each parter. Some are so easy, so fun to write. Others are fine, just explain the facts. Others are painful. A bit of all three this time.
