Monday

Back to work. I love that one. We’re in the horse business, we work every day. All day, every day. Tom Garner called me today. “Are you in front of your computer?” I’m always in front of my computer. We looked up a couple of horses. Gulfstream to Galway. Chepstow to Churchill.

Just finished a Year in Review for the Irish Field. Now, wading into the A Year in Review for Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred. Deep breath. Another cup of tea. Trying to switch from selling to writing, marketing to creating, building to imagining. It’s a gear grind. Always has been. Certainly, two sides of the brain.

Goodbye to another racetrack. Another crumbled brick in the wall. Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver, British Columbia. The government deciding to end casino subsidies. A new stadium deal. A money grab. Originally called East Park, it opened in 1889 and closes this year, the last operating Thoroughbred track in Canada’s westernmost province. I’ve been to Woodbine and Assiniboia Downs. Never got to Hastings. That’s the problem with those bucket lists, the bottom falls out more often than not.

Podcast of the Day. How I Built This with Meridith Baer. Awesome listen.
