No Race

After a late night at The Special Saturday night and into Sunday morning, it was still dry at 2:30 in the morning. We had managed to dance around the rain for the first three days of the Belmont Stakes Festival at Saratoga.

You can only dance for so long.

By this morning, I heard the rain patter off the front porch. Heard the wet wheels rolling down Circular Street. I knew we were in trouble.

A little while later, my brother Joe said he was sorry. The Beverly R. Steinman had been cancelled. Deflating news. Fruitless trip. Awakened and Gordon’s Jet were heading back down the Northway. And I switched gears and started thinking about Pietrelcina at Laurel Friday.

They rescheduled the $150,000 stakes at Aqueduct June 20. We’ll try again.
