Solid effort from Pietrelcina at Pimlico Sunday. Making his 4-year-old debut, the son of Noble Mission settled near the back, stopped and started a few times and rallied wide to finish second for Danielle Hodsdon and jockey Horacio Karamanos.

I hate to lose but that was an encouraging loss, at least.

“He ran well. He tried. It was all packed in front so I had to wait. He takes his time to kick. I waited because I would have had to move wide and that would have been too much. He kicked nice,” Karamanos said. “A lot of traffic and I couldn’t do anything inside so I had to wait. He came flying. After the wire, he’s still going and going.”
