Another snow day. The longest Christmas vacation – 20 days on my watch – has gotten longer. A two-hour delay was just announced for Wednesday. Time to get back to school. Back to work – full-time work. I’ve been ducking and diving, sliding and slipping in work when possible. Holiday travel and working from home. Bad exacta when it comes to the concentration level. Not complaining. Just stating.
The Christmas tree is down and out. Soon to be a hat rack, but don’t tell Steve Byk. A few strands of outside lights still to come. A couple of wreaths still hanging. The snow derailed that plan. Maybe in a day or two. Christmas brings its own stress each year, it also brings a lot of fun and joy. I’m no Grinch.
Jhirsch and Koru are back in work at Whitewood, just long, slow, easy miles as they learn to transition from race track to farm life. Include It has been hunting right along in Monkton. Lorraine is due for a break, she’ll probably swap with Pietrelcina at Fair Hill Training Center once the snow subsides. Jack Fisher starts everything January 15. No exceptions. Like April 15 to an accountant. At Kingfisher, it’s January 15. Like the holiday break, it’s time to get going again. Even with a six-inch cover of snow and wind blowing like it’s K2, spring will be here before we know it. Slow miles in January lead to fast races in April. Hopefully.
