Off the turf at Laurel Park today. Roja Redemption will stay home, go for a gallop up Jack Fisher’s synthetic strip and maybe a roll and an easy afternoon in a muddy paddock. No problem. With an early win and a third, he didn’t need to run. We need to look in the condition book for another spot, perhaps in two weeks.
Rain-sodden Delaware Park had made the decision earlier this week, postponing the Cape Henlopen. Cyber Ninja will wait as well. Second race in a row that’s been rained off for him. No problem. Just makes for a boring Saturday. We were going to do the Laurel/Delaware double. Now, it looks like we’ll be in the garden for the day. At least the weeds are loose.
As for tomorrow, we entered Mortal Sin and Lorraine at Laurel. First race. Sixth race. Both on the grass, both in jeopardy. As opposed to the first two, those two need to get their seasons started. Turf horses making their debuts in June is not ideal. As the great hockey announcer Gene Hart used to say when the game was slipping away from his beloved Flyers, “Time’s a wastin.”
We could run Mortal Sin on the dirt. Definitely not Lorraine.
Awakened is aiming at the Steinman next week. Supposed to be raining in Saratoga today. And that’s it for the next week. Hopefully.

Lorraine enjoying a muddy morning.
