Three runners. Three winners.
Jhirsch, De La Cruz and Wilma Flintshire won their preps at Old Dominion Saturday. We certainly weren’t trying to win but as a partner once said, “Winning is a good habit to get into.”
Making his hurdle debut for trainer Laird George, Jhirsch jumped well, going short early and long late in the point-to-point maiden hurdle. Jamie Bargary nudged him into second and he was put up after the winner went off course. All systems go toward Middleburg April 18.
De La Cruz led early, got passed, sat, stalked and won hard held under Graham Watters for trainer Julie Gomena. The 5-year-old had popped around at Warrenton and was more polished this time. Hopefully it wasn’t too hard a race and hopefully we’re all set for Middleburg.
Wilma Flintshire won the Virginia-bred flat race for Laird George and Stephen Mulqueen. The jockey replaced Jamie Bargary, after he rushed to the hospital to welcome in a baby boy born on Easter. As for our 5-year-old mare, she should be ready to roll at Middleburg as well.

Wilma Flintshire gets her picture taken.
