Three Columns

Every day, I peruse cards from France, Ireland, England and North America and log the races I want to watch. From a buyer’s perspective, a bettor’s eye and a fan’s view. It’s always an eclectic list. Today’s list spans three columns, a rarity, and is certainly eclectic.

La Teste De Buche. Kempton. Ascot. Craon. Thirsk. Colonial Downs. Navan. Stratford. Wolverhampton. Kentucky Downs. Laurel Park. Belterra. Woodbine. Del Mar. Gulfstream Park. Monmouth Park. Louisiana Downs. Canterbury Park. Hastings. Prairie Meadows.

To name a few.

I’ll catch most of the races while juggling life (a catch with Miles in the backyard, a few Saturday chores, the Cakewalk at Welbourne).

Riverdee’s Pietrelcina heads to Colonial Downs. Kendrick Carmouche climbs aboard the career maiden. Perhaps, today is the day. Post time 1:30. That line gets three bold stars *** just to make sure it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle between a maiden claimer on the turf at Gulfstream Park and a filly and mare allowance at Kentucky Downs (how’s the weather there?).

What do you think of the Old Dominion Derby? If you missed World Beater at 11-1 at Saratoga, be careful backing the improving 3-year-old at 9-5. Solid race finishes the stellar card. Post time 4:55 p.m.

Who do you like in the Super Derby at Louisiana Downs? A race that once attracted the likes of Temperence Hill, Sunny’s Halo, Gato Del Sol, Gate Dancer, Alysheba, Seeking The Gold, Sunday Silence has lost some of its luster over the years but is still worth a watch. Post time 7:36 p.m.

How about the Bison Strides Mile at Prairie Meadows? Hard to look past Smarty Hardy. The Nebraska-bred 2-year-old son of Stroll puts his undefeated record on the line against rivals bred in Iowa, Florida, Texas, Kentucky and Virginia. Post time 9:46 p.m.

Here’s to a day at the races.
