I walk outside. The door nearly blows off the hinges. Kiss, Blue, EP and Apse huddle like four commuters waiting for a long-missed bus.

I call off hunting.

Partly the blustery weather, partly my aching back. And, yes, these are first-world problems. FOMO for sure. We’ll see.

The field for the third at Hereford lines up and heads off. One of the few races not on my list to watch for the day. Ascot offers a strong card, highlighted by the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle. Couple of Irish raiders against a couple of solid British stayers. Good race. Stayers’ Hurdle clues…yeah, yeah, yeah…let’s enjoy the race for the race itself. I’ve always like Crambo. Perhaps because of his name.

Domestically, Fair Grounds, Laurel Park and Gulfstream Park present stakes cards that warm up a Saturday in December.
