Thirty degrees and windy at 35538.
Very windy. Batten-down-the-hatches windy. Which on a farm means roll up the tarps, stow the rakes and throw the blankets in the tack room. And catch the cardboard groundcover fly from the garden to the hedgerows. Basically, hope for the best.
No riding today.
Aqueduct cancelled because of high winds. Wincanton, Leicester, Market Rasen and Chelmsford City will keep us interested this morning. Gulfstream Park, Fair Grounds and Turfway Park in the afternoon and evening.
Lorraine going on a road trip to Turfway Park for a 10-furlong maiden. Post time 7:55. She’s 20-1 in a full field. Venturing to Florence, Kentucky in December wasn’t how we drew it up, but the whipsaw of unused/unfilled races forces you to audible. She was ready to run in July and has run twice since. Racing offices struggle to fill races. Owners and trainers struggle to find races. Stand meet off.
Lorraine definitely wants a mile and a quarter but it’s a tough race, of course. She drew post three; go forward, try to get first run, think stamina not speed. Easy, right?
Worth Repeating;
“Cold. Really cold.”
Trainer Danielle Hodsdon when asked how it was at Turfway Park.
