Vintage Year broke his maiden in style at Foxfield. Cool Jet came back to his best, just missing in the Good Night Shirt handicap at Foxfield. Two nice horses. Two strong efforts.
Vintage Year made his hurdle debut at Foxfield in fall 2023, over-jumped and over-reached and hit the sidelines for a year and a half. Not ideal, but the son of Point Of Entry has come back strong this year with a second and win. James O’Sullivan deputized for Graham Watters.
Cool Jet roared through the novice division in 2023 and hit the skids last year, falling in the Temple Gwathmey and finishing fourth in the feature at Foxfield in the fall. That was it, firm ground derailed any other plans. The 9-year-old chased the winner yesterday and couldn’t reel him in late. Cool horse. Solid effort.
As for the Maryland Hunt Cup, that was a debacle from start to finish. Well, we didn’t finish. Queens Empire stressed out in the paddock, got worse at the start, missed the break and trailed way behind the field before losing Virginia Korrell with a major mistake at the eighth or ninth fence, I lost count. The son of Empire Maker was banged up after the races but seems OK. I won’t do that again.
Back to the gridiron with two at Middleburg Hunt Point-to-Point.
