A good start to the weekend with a winner and a second at Laurel yesterday. Koru broke sharply (way better than last time), found a sweet spot in third, moved through on the rail and won by a head. At 3/5, it was a little more tense than anticipated but another solid run for our son of Hard Spun.
The chart reads: KORU stalked the pace along the inner rail, advanced inside LUCA MACHINE to challenge for the lead in upper stretch, dueled with that one and narrowly prevailed in an extended drive.
That’s about right. In two starts for Riverdee, the New York-bred 4-year-old has earned a win and a second and $32,200.
Roja Redemption ran hard to finish second in the opener at Laurel. The son of Flintshire broke tepidly (coming off two jump races), missed the first two tiers and wound up in fifth. Lacking room for a moment, he swung wide while the winner snuck through the rail. We were beaten a length. The 5-year-old continued his productive career with us; two wins, three seconds, two thirds and over $50,000 in seven starts. We’ll take it.
Back to the pitch today. Lorraine in the opener at Laurel, Cyber Ninja in the Cape Henlopen and Vintage Year in a maiden turf at Delaware Park. Weather holding at the moment. Pietrelcina, American War Hero and Palio at Laurel Sunday.

Koru, left, building the foundation this winter.
